Real estate can be a fun and challenging career. It takes an entrepreneurial spirit, positive outlook and the desire to work with clients and an individual can succeed.

In order to apply for a real estate license, one must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • have obtained a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED)
  • show proof of successful completion of ninety (90) hours of real estate education in courses approved by the LREC
  • comply with all application procedures required by the LREC
  • pass the real estate salesperson licensing examination
  • be sponsored by a licensed real estate broker and provide proof of errors and omissions insurance prior to license issuance.

Once you've successfully passed the state licensing exam, you will want to join our Association. Northwest Louisiana Association of REALTORS® provides ethical standards, education, information and services to members which enable you to excel and prosper in the real estate market place.

All members of the Northwest Louisiana Association of REALTORS® enjoy the rights and privileges of the title REALTOR® and more information can be found at the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) website at http://www.realtor.org. STEPS TO BECOMING A REALTOR® MEMBER

1. Obtain your real estate license

2. Complete the appropriate REALTOR® application form

3. Submit the application and applicable dues to the NWLAR office

4. Attend a New Member Orientation class within two (2) scheduled sessions and complete a REALTOR® Code of Ethics course (at the NWLAR office or complete an on-line course) within 185 days

3. ORIENTATION TRAINING: New members are required to attend one of the next two NWLAR Orientation and MLS Orientation (if applicable) sessions offered after filing application. Failure to do so will result in membership suspension until this is accomplished. See education calendar for list of dates available.

4. ETHICS TRAINING: New members are required to attend a 4 hour Ethics training course within 185 days of filing their application. See education calendar for list of dates available.

5. RENEWAL: Membership renewal dues are billed in mid-October and are payable on or before November 30 regardless of the date you join.

6. TRANSFERS:Whenever a REALTOR® transfers (changes brokers, written notification is required. A $35 transfer fee must be paid in order to transfer Association and MLS membership. Without this fee, transfer cannot be processed.

7. CHANGES: Any change in address, telephone number, etc. should be submitted in writing to the NWLAR office. REMINDER: The Louisiana Real Estate Commission must be advised of any licensee's address change.
